The National Electric Furnace Short-Process Steelmaking Conference will be held in Luzhou, Sichuan Province from May 4 to 5. As the first national event of electric furnace short-process steelmaking industry, this conference is co-sponsored by Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and co-hosted by Chinese Society of Metals, China Iron and Steel Association, Sichuan Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, Sichuan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, Sichuan Provincial Luzhou Municipal People's Government. With the theme of "Developing electric furnace steelmaking · Creating a Green future", the conference highlights four highlights: the leading role of new industrialization, the theme of green and low-carbon, the collision of high-end ideas and the main theme of hosting the conference.

The conference will adopt a combination of "offline + online" approach, focusing on meetings and discussions to promote industrial upgrading, including industry conferences, speeches by provincial and ministerial leaders, enterprise experience exchange, academician experts and industry associations, the unveiling of green and low-carbon metallurgical Research institute, site visits and other activities, centering on the launch of the "14th Five-Year" green and low-carbon transformation and upgrading of national electric furnace short process steelmaking. Comprehensively improving the technical capability and industrial chain level of short-process steelmaking industry, solving the "bottleneck" technical problems, implementing green development and intelligent manufacturing of the steel industry, and popularizing the experience and practices of developing Sichuan electric furnace short-process steelmaking industry are of great significance to guiding the transformation and upgrading of the national steel industry, high-quality development, and helping the industry to achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

More than 300 guests will be invited to attend the conference, including competent departments of the national and relevant provincial (municipal) governments, representatives of well-known iron and steel enterprises, academicians and experts, colleges and universities in the field of metallurgy, scientific research institutions, well-known experts and scholars, etc., to deeply discuss the forward-looking hot topics of technology independent innovation, green and low-carbon development, digital and intelligent metallurgy, efficient and comprehensive utilization of resources, future technology path and other industries. We will jointly explore methods and paths of technological development, cooperation mode, industrial ecological co-construction and sharing, and send a green signal of high-quality development of electric furnace short-process steelmaking industry to the world.

In recent years, Sichuan Province has thoroughly implemented the decision and deployment of the CPC Central Committee and The State Council on the strategy of achieving carbon neutrality and deepening the supply-side structural reform. Relying on the advantages of rich hydropower resources, Sichuan Province has promoted the transformation and upgrading of the short-process steel industry. In 2022, the province's short-process steelmaking scale reached 13 million tons, with electric furnace steel accounting for about 40%, ranking first in China. Sichuan Province has comprehensively implemented the transformation of short-process steelmaking with ultra-low emission, established scrap resource recycling system, established the largest short-process steelmaking enterprise group in China, and formed a modern enterprise cluster with Ye Kong Group as the core, featuring Gang Chen stainless steel and Panchang specialty, and "common materials concentrated and special materials prominent", which has become an important gathering area of short-process steelmaking industry in China. It provides Sichuan program for the high quality development of short process electric furnace steelmaking.

In the next step, Sichuan will further carry out the high quality development leading project of electric furnace short process steelmaking, strengthen the construction of digital intelligence innovation capacity, improve the comprehensive resource guarantee capacity, and build a development pattern of scrap steel resources with high recycling efficiency, reasonable regional layout structure, green and low-carbon characteristics, advanced intelligence level, and harmonious integration of industry and city.
